Aims
Learning Objectives: The student
- Understands the importance of evidence based practice for nursing practice.
- The student will organise him/herself to work independently and in a planned way in order to submit the scientific paper on time.
elaborate the different parts according to the principles of a scientific paper.
- Use an efficient search method to find recent scientific nursing literature.
- The paper should be supported by scientifically valid Dutch and English literature.
- Pay sufficient attention to the structure, style and presentation of the paper.
- References in the paper are correct according to APA style.
- Avoids all forms of plagiarism at all times.
- Critically transfer scientific evidence into nursing practice.
Previous knowledge
To be admitted to the first year, candidates must hold a secondary education certificate issued by the Flemish, French or German Community of Belgium. These certificates give access to all forms of higher education. For candidates with only a foreign diploma, a proficiency level of the Dutch language is required, issued by a recognised language institute. For information about this, please contact the department.

Content
In this OPO, students learn criteria to distinguish a scientific text from other literature, learn to work with scientific databases (via LIMO, Pubmed, Science Direct, databases with nursing guidelines, Cochrane Library, etc.), learn the basic concepts of scientific research, learn to pay attention to scientific language and refer to it in accordance with APA style.

- Define - delineate - situate a topic
- Formulating a question(s)
- Creating a conceptual model
- Using efficient search terms and methods
- Finding and combining relevant sources
- Determining the scientific value of the source
- Selecting useful information
- Reading the information
- Processing and writing the information (content, formatting and style)
- Correctly referencing in the text and in the reading list
