The student:

  • Understands the basic principles of evidence-based practice.
  • Knows the difference between quantitative and qualitative research.
  • Is familiar with the most commonly used research methods in both quantitative and qualitative research and can distinguish these from scientific sources.
  • Understands the application of various measurement instruments and existing scales and tests used in scientific research.
  • Recognizes basic statistics in scientific sources.
  • Can identify the most common types of bias in different research designs.
  • Can discuss the content of scientific articles and assess the quality of the articles.
  • Can apply current guidelines and scientific evidence in their own practice.
  • Adopts a lifelong learning attitude by consulting Dutch-language, but especially English-language, professional literature.
  • Can formulate a proper research question to address contemporary issues, themes, or innovations in midwifery and take a well-founded position on them.
  • Can organize knowledge and clearly translate it for practical use.
  • Correctly references sources in their work according to APA style, both in the text and in the reference list.
  • Can appropriately use AI to complete the exam assignment.

The articles used for the exam paper are expected to be selected from medical databases (at least 2/3 in English).

K-labs: Within these K-labs, the necessary theoretical knowledge is explained in detail. Active participation from the students is expected, as the theory is immediately applied using the articles found for the exam paper.

S-labs: In these S-labs, students have the opportunity to work step by step on the exam assignment under the guidance of the instructor.

The articles for the presentation must be uploaded to CANVAS no later than April 21, 2025, at 12:00 PM.

The presentation will be given during one of the classes.

This course unit does not allow partial mark transfers.

The revised exam paper must be uploaded to CANVAS no later than August 23, 2025, at 12:00 PM.

The date of the retake for the presentation will be communicated via the exam schedule.
